I believe that academic institutions provide us with professional skills, but are no harbinger of one’s success because the meaning of success has changed.

Giants such as Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, whose fame of success loom large, dropped out or left the university they were studying at; however, such exceptions do not mean that the great role the academic institutions play to educate people is futile. The more educated people are, the higher the edifices of civilizations soar, and better societies we will have. Therefore, although universities might no teach us skills to become multi-millionaires, they teach us the necessary skills to make prosperous societies. I
Nowadays, the concept of success has undergone tremendous changes and differs from one place to another. For instance, in places where people still suffer gravely from the lack of basic requirements such as water, pure air, shelter, safety, to have the most basic means to survive means success; however, in developed countries, one may find having a good job with an average income a success. On the other hand, some others may find being a successful multimillionaire horrible because such people believe in the equal distribution of wealth and too much consumerism a grave problem that leads to the depletion of to natural resources of the earth.
In conclusion, universities have important roles in building better societies and the meaning of success differs from place to place and from people to people.
