Q. Tell me about your best friend at school.
Reflecting on my school days, I remember my best friend, Farhad, who played a significant role in my early life. As someone who has always been a bit introverted, I didn’t have a wide circle of friends—just a few casual acquaintances and one true confidant. Farhad was that person for me. We often spent our afternoons at the video games club, diving into different worlds and competing in various games. Despite being only 13 at the time, he exhibited an incredible understanding and kindness that made our friendship special. What I cherished most about Farhad was his adventurous spirit; he was always eager to try new things, whether it was exploring new gaming strategies or going on spontaneous outings. Those shared experiences created a treasure trove of unforgettable memories that I still hold dear today.
Q. How friendly are you with your neighbours? [Why/Why not?]
Living in Tehran, the bustling capital city of Iran, presents a unique social dynamic. The fast-paced, modern lifestyle often makes residents less inclined to engage with one another. People here tend to be preoccupied with their own lives, which can create a somewhat distant atmosphere among neighbors. Despite this, I strive to maintain a friendly relationship with those living nearby. I believe that fostering a sense of community is essential, so I always make an effort to be warm and approachable. When my neighbors reciprocate that friendliness, it creates a positive environment where we can support each other and share small moments of joy. In a city as vast and busy as Tehran, these connections, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in our day-to-day lives.
Q. Which is more important to you, friends or family? [Why?]
While it’s often said that family comes first, I’ve found that my friends, who have become like family to me, play an equally vital role in my happiness. Living in Tehran, away from my immediate family, has taught me the true value of companionship and support. The few friends I have are not just acquaintances; they are my confidants, my cheerleaders, and my companions in both good times and bad.
These friendships provide me with a sense of belonging and emotional security that I deeply cherish. Whether it’s sharing a meal, celebrating milestones, or simply enjoying a quiet evening together, my friends fill the gaps that distance from my family has created. They offer the same warmth and understanding that I would find in my family, creating a support system that is incredibly important to me.
In a bustling city like Tehran, where life can sometimes feel overwhelming, having these close relationships is a source of immense comfort. It reminds me that family is not just defined by blood, but also by the bonds we choose to nurture. My friends here have truly enriched my life, making it more fulfilling and joyful.
Oh gosh, that’s undoubtedly been a huge desire for me, and of all the many writers that I adore and with whose books I have been transported into infatuating worlds, I am not sure whom to choose. This question is a real deal to me. Let me think, oh yeah, I would choose J. K. Rowling, the intentionally-known, loved and praised writer of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them books.
That’s a shame that I don’t have a great amount of knowledge about Ms. Rowling, since, you know, I prefer reading masterpieces themselves and care much less about the writer. But, Rowling and some other writers that I have cherished reading over and over again are different to me. There are few facts about her, for example, I know how she underwent an impoverished life before she climbed the mountain of success to its very peak with the success Harry Potter books her crowning achievement.
What I have always desired to find out is how in abject poverty, she pushed her way upward to the summit of success and built a gigantic, super creative and fantastic wizards’ and witches’ world of Harry Potter of which a lot of people liked me have indelibly fantastic memories.
The main reason that I am inclined to visit this giant writer is how all her ideas originated and bloomed. I am sure the story of how this majestic fantasy world came into being can be as awe-inspiring as the story itself.
Q. What kinds of books are most popular with children in your country? Why do you think this is so?
As far as I know, children in our country, like all children in the world are fascinated by stories. Small children aged 3 to 7 are enthralled by fairy tales whose adapted animated movie versions are also adored and watched many times. Besides, children are also encouraged by their parents to read scientific books with absorbing images who might grow up to prefer factual works than fictional ones.
Q. Why do you think some children do not read books very often?
Well, the reasons why children do not gravitate toward reading books are plenty. Some children would rather do sports and outdoor activities to read books; some are too addicted to playing video games and the lack of parental supervision and enough encouragement prevent them from reading books.
Q. How do you think children can be encouraged to read more?
Well, I believe it depends on the type of people’s personality. Some people’s upbringings since their early childhood are entangled with stories and characters in fairy tales, comics, and stories of any kind. Children who grow up with stories are more predisposed to take a liking to read novels than those whose parents encourage them to value factual or scientific books to the fictional ones.
Q. Are there any occasions when reading at speed is a useful skill to have? What are they?
I have never been in favor of learning or mastering this skill because I hold the opinion that true and deep learning is the offshoot of years of regular reading and studying. I think fast reading can only be beneficial when an individual aims to pass an exam and be done with it once and for all; like the pointless lessons which were parts of the curricula we had to read and pass back in school and university.
Q. Are there any jobs where people need to read a lot? What are they?
Let’s take being a teacher as an example. As far as I am concerned being a teacher demands a lot of skill and knowledge which must be kept updated by regular reading and practicing. Researchers, journalists, and businessmen have to read every day and keep themselves occupied with whatever their major of studies are entangled with. For these people, reading a lot is of the highest necessity.
