Q. How did your parents choose your name(s)?
To tell you the truth, my name is a religious one which is rooted in Islamic beliefs. The one who picked the name for me was my mother who has always been a devoted Muslim. Unfortunately, to her frustration, I did not turn out to be a religious man she wanted me to be. IELTS Speaking Test Tips
Q. Does your name have any special meaning?
Well, in fact, my name is Abolfazl which is Arabic and composed of two parts, it means father of grace and a lot of Iranian people find it one of the most beautiful names, and in my hometown, a lot of parents name their sons Abolfazl, you know, due in large part to their devotions to Islamic beliefs. Q. Is your name common or unusual in your country?
As I already mentioned, a lot pick this name in my hometown. As far as I am concerned, after Ali and Hossein names, which are the names of the first and the third Shiah Imams, Abolfazl is very popular with Iranians.
Q. If you could change your name, would you? [Why/Why not?]
Well, in fact, I would not, not because I care about my name, because I see nothing behind a name and I do not really care about names owing to my philosophical inclinations which are too sophisticated to explain now; however, if I did not like the sound of it, I would definitely pick a nickname for myself.

Recently I have been interested in finding out about the earth, the outer space and all that has been going on in our universe. This fascination is, in fact, because of my long-lasting interest in the idea of Genesis. I mean, the beginning of all beginnings. During New Year holidays, I happened to find some documentaries concerning the earth and other planets, and the one which captured my attention most and I contemplate was Racing Extinction.
I for one, have bee frustrated with the idea of change for the better when it came for global warming and other environmental issues. What I mean is that the earth has undergone deteriorating changes and everything will be annihilated in 100 years. So, die is cast.
The reason I went for this documentary was optimistic attitudes behind it. Most importantly, I was eager to discover if there are any viable solutions and ways to tackle environmental issues such as climate change, global warming, deforestation, ocean acidification, animal extinction, etc. When I watched all the attempts made by some activists and their maneuvers which have led to many accomplishments, I gained a lot hopes.
I learned that we must not stop our endeavor towards making our mother earth a better place for us, mankind and other species which have been debilitated and died out due to our blunders. The sentence that I learned and loved was “better light a candle than curse the darkness.”
I found this documentary fascinating because it changed my pessimistic perspective and since then I have done my best to contribute to the betterment of our planet, and I hope everyone will follow my steps.

Q. What are the most popular kinds of TV programmes in your country? Why is this?
Well, in fact, Iranian and foreign TV series are among people’s top preferences. Some years ago, there were no more than 3 or 4 TV channels; however, nowadays, people benefit a lot from a plethora of foreign channels. Besides, young people like me are passionate about downloading TV series from Netflix, HBO, AMC and other globally known and praised channels uploaded on Iranian websites and enjoy watching them.
Q. Do you think there are too many game shows on TV nowadays? Why?
Actually, I think they have been gaining popularity among people as they create a great deal of excitement for people. I know that some of my relatives and friends were incited to go to the gym and keep themselves in shape after watching sport and game shows, and I believe that’s one of the major plus points of these shows. But, for me, these shows are intellectually stimulating which contribute a lot to learning about group psychology.
Q. Do you think TV is the main way for people to get the news in your country? What other ways are there?
I am not sure TV is the most reliable of sources in the world, not just in our country. The majority of people in our country would rather find out about all that’s going on in the world as well as Iran through Telegram application channels.
Q. What types of products are advertised most often on TV?
There are plenty of food products like snacks that are being advertised on TV these days. Electronics such as TV, fridge, and other household appliances are also among the top ones.
Q. Do you think that people pay attention to adverts on TV? Why do you think that is?
Undeniably, advertisements trick people into buying a variety of products through dazzling gimmicks; Iranians, however, have been suffering heavy American sanctions which have led to daily and unpredictable rise of prices, that’s why, I think, they have become absolutely cautious about their expenditures and try buying products after a complete analysis and thorough awareness.
Q. How important are regulations on TV advertising?
Like everything in our country, ads must stick to Islamic rules. Going through some rigid rules is of the highest necessity so all that is being advertised be in accordance with national rules.
